Tank Installation / Capacity Enhancement Project in Mawathagama, Sri Lanka for Asia Pacific Breweries Ltd

Mendis Cobain Consultants (MCC), Ascendia's strategic partner, presents one of its successful projects, the Tank Installation / Capacity Enhancement Project in Mawathagama, Sri Lanka for Asia Pacific Breweries Ltd, a leading brewery company in Sri Lanka and a subsidiary of Heineken Asia Pacific. 

The project involved the installation of four new stainless steel tanks and the enhancement of the existing tank farm at the brewery plant in Mawathagama, a town in the Kurunegala District of Sri Lanka. The project aimed to increase the production capacity and efficiency of the brewery plant, as well as to improve the quality and safety of the beer products.

MCC was responsible for the following aspects of the project:

• Engineering services: MCC provided engineering services for the tank installation / capacity enhancement project, including the design, procurement, fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning of the new tanks and the associated piping, valves, pumps, instruments, and electrical systems. MCC also provided engineering services for the modification and upgrade of the existing tank farm, including the relocation, repair, and integration of the existing tanks and the related equipment. MCC used advanced software and techniques to optimize the engineering solutions and to ensure compliance with the local and international standards and codes.

• Project management: MCC provided project management services for the tank installation / capacity enhancement project, including the planning, scheduling, budgeting, monitoring, controlling, and reporting of the project activities and resources. MCC also provided project management services for the coordination and communication of the various stakeholders and parties involved in the project, such as the client, the contractor, the suppliers, the consultants, and the authorities. MCC ensured that the project was delivered on time, within budget, and with the required quality and performance.

• Quality assurance: MCC provided quality assurance services for the tank installation / capacity enhancement project, including the verification, validation, inspection, and testing of the project deliverables and outputs. MCC ensured that the project met the highest standards of quality, functionality, and aesthetics, while also complying with the local and international regulations and requirements.

The project was delivered on time and within budget, with a high level of customer satisfaction and positive feedback.

One of the unique challenges that we overcame in this project was the installation of the new tanks in a limited space and with minimal disruption to the existing operations of the brewery plant. Our experts used innovative methods and techniques, such as modular fabrication, pre-assembly, and skid mounting, to reduce the site work and the installation time of the new tanks. Our teams also used careful planning and coordination methods, such as staggered installation, partial shutdown, and temporary bypass, to minimize the impact and interference of the new tanks with the existing tank farm and the brewery plant.
